Editor's Review

The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center in Anchorage, AK, has carved out a niche for itself since opening its doors in 1992. It's a place where shoppers can find everything from organic produce to closeout deals, which is certainly appealing. However, the experience isn’t universally positive. A mix of glowing and troubling reviews paints a picture of a store that has its charm but is marred by significant concerns.

Chandra Woodson captures the spirit many feel when she says, "I love it there. The girls and guys there are wonderful." People appreciate the friendly staff and the excitement of discovering new items every Tuesday. Yet not all experiences reflect this warmth. Natasha Guerrero expressed her frustration, stating, "They wrongly profiled me and followed me… rude and humiliating for nothing." Such sentiments are echoed by others who’ve encountered unwelcoming staff or confusing donation policies.

For those who enjoy bargain hunting and community spirit, this store is a treasure trove. The mixed reviews, however, remind shoppers to approach with an open mind and to be prepared for potential hiccups in service. While some revel in the excitement of the hunt, others have left feeling disheartened by their interactions.

Best for: Bargain hunters looking for unique finds in a community-focused environment.

Watched the older native woman who I assume is a manager get the man of a white couple involved to rip the clothes out of a homeless woman’s hands. He didn’t appear to work there. It was super weird and unsettling to watch.
